Borrow DVDs & CDs
UT Austin students, faculty and staff may check out items using their UT ID card. Other borrowers may use a Courtesy Borrower Card, available from the Circulation Desk in the Perry-Castañeda Library (PCL).
Check Out
- DVDs
- Check out DVDs and videos for 3 days. Three item limit.
- CDs
- Check out CDs and cassettes for 14 days. Three item limit.
- Reserve items
- Check out reserve items. Loan periods vary and are set by professors.
- Equipment
- Digital cameras, camcorders and boomboxes may be checked out for 3 days.
- Cassette players may be checked out for use in the listening carrels.
Renew
All DVDs, CDs and equipment must be renewed in person at the Audio Visual Library.
Hold
Hold an item when you need it but it is checked out to someone else.
- DVDs and CDs
- Place your hold in person at the Audio Visual Library. You may put a hold on these items if the loan period is 3 or 14 days.
- Reserve Items and Equipment
- These items may not be held or recalled.
- Notification
- You will receive an email when a DVD or CD you requested is available.
- The Hold Queue
- If you aren’t the first person who placed a hold on a DVD or CD ask at the Audio Visual Library to find out your place in the hold queue.
Return
- DVDs and CDs
- Return DVDs and CDs to the Audio Visual Library while it is open or to the After Hours Return Box outside the Audio Visual Library.
- Reserves and Equipment
- Return reserves and equipment to the Audio Visual Library when it is open.
Fine
- Charges
- If you return items late, you will be charged. See Charges for Overdue and Lost Materials for more information.
- Disputing a Charge
- If you want to discuss or dispute a charge, ask to talk to a fines supervisor at the Audio Visual Library.
- If this does not settle the matter to your satisfaction, you may appeal your charges.
- Paying a Charge
- Pay online at What I Owe or in person at Student Accounts Receivable, Main Building, Room 8.
